The Rab C. Nesbitt Desktop Theme V1.0 - May 1999

Introduction

The Rab C Nesbitt Desktop Theme v1.0 is a Desktop Theme by beebfun designed for Microsoft Plus! (or shareware equivalent). This theme includes special start-up and shutdown screens, animated cursors, choice of two themed wallpapers and desktop colour scheme, quality system sounds, new desktop icons and a themed screensaver.

Requirements

The tc.zip file contains all that you will need (except Microsoft Plus!) to run this under Windows 95/98. A screen resolution of 800x600 pixels or higher with hi-colour (16/24/32 bit colour) resolution is recommended to get the best quality. The wallpaper size is 1024x768 but will shrink automatically to your selected screen size. To use desktop themes you need the Microsoft Plus! add-on for Windows 95 or Windows 98 (included). If you are using Windows 95 and don't have the Plus! Pack there is a shareware application allowing you to use themes. You can also create your own themes with it as well.

Automatic Installation Of Theme Files

The tc.zip file has been saved with all required file locations - to install this theme just do the following:-

• load up Winzip
• double click on FT.ZIP
• check the Use Folder Names check box.
• click the Extract To button to unzip all files to C:/

All the files will be installed in the correct folders and locations. Read on for detailed installation instructions.

If your themes directory isn't at the default setting of "C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes" then you will instead have to create a sub-directory called "Rab C Nsbitt" within your themes directory and extract the files to that directory. The *.theme file should be placed in the themes directory.

Manual Installation theme files

The following instructions describe how to manually install the zip file contents so that you can manually remove these at some later date at your option.

1. Unzip the archive to a temporary location (e.g C:\TEMP) with an unzip program that supports long filenames like Winzip. You should now have one folder containing the files listed above.
2. Go to the root folder of your boot drive (usually c:\) and rename the file logo.sys (if one exists) to logo.w95. Next, move the file logo.sys from the temporary location to this folder.
3. Go to your Windows folder (usually c:\windows) and rename the files logoW.sys and logoS.sys to logoW.w95 and logoS.w95 if these exist. Next, move the files: logoW.sys and logoS.sys from the temporary location to this folder.
4. Go to your Systems folder (usually c:\windows\systems) move the files: Rab.Dat and Rab.Scr from the temporary location to this folder.
5. Go to your Themes folder (usually c:\program files\plus!\themes) and create a folder called Rab C Nesbitt (Note: spelling is important)
6. Move the others files from your temporary folder to your Rab C Nesbitt folder (usually c:\program files\plus!\themes\Rab C Nesbitt)
7. Go to your Rab C Nesbitt folder (usually c:\program files\plus!\themes\Rab C Nesbitt) and move the files Rab C Nesbitt .Theme back up to the Themes folder (usually c:\program files\plus!\themes)
8. Start up Microsoft !Plus and select the Rab C Nesbitt theme option click on "OK".
9. If using Desktop Themes (a shareware equivalent of Microsoft Plus!) double click on Desktop Themes and select Rab C Nesbitt from the current settings drop down list. Click on apply.

Manual Installation Of Startup / Shutdown Screens

This theme also includes original startup / shutdown screens. You may want to back up your original screens first.

• logo.sys - This is the startup screen and should be copied to C:\
• logow.sys - This is the waiting to shutdown screen. Copy it to C:\Windows
• logos.sys - This is the shutdown screen. Copy it to C:\Windows

Distribution

This theme may be distributed freely so long as all files are kept together, no modifications are made and no money is ever charged for the theme in any form.
